PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Oscar Albayalde inspected on Wednesday, October 31, bus terminals and cemeteries around Metro Manila to ensure security measures were in place during the All Souls’ Day weekend.

Albayalde was accompanied by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Director Guillermo Eleazar, PNP spokesperson Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr. and Quezon City Police District Director Joselito Esquivel.

The first stop was a bus terminal in Cubao, Quezon City.

During the inspection, Albayalde and other police officials randomly boarded buses to check on the passengers and drivers.

They were reminded to be alert and vigilant during the trip.

Albayalde also visited his men deployed at the Manila North and Manila South cemeteries.

Except for the arrest of a man found with live ammunition at a bus terminal, Albayalde said they have yet to record any untoward incident related to All Souls' Day travel.

Eleazar said Bryan Bagasala, 35, was arrested at the Araneta Cubao bus terminal after authorities recovered from his baggage 16 pieces of M16 live ammunition.

He said Bagasala will be charged with possession of illegal ammunition.

“So far, okay naman. ‘Yung ating mga pulis, stakeholders, force multipliers ay nandito lahat pati ‘yung mga volunteers at so far maayos naman at hopefully wala ngang incident dito,” said Albayalde.

Earlier, Albayalde said the PNP will field a total of 32,092 police personnel nationwide to ensure the safety and security of travelers and those who will flock to the cemeteries to honor their departed relatives.

Albayalde said at least 2,000 more men are on standby in Camp Crame in case the situation calls for augmentation.

He said the PNP has been on full alert since 6:30 a.m. of Wednesday. The full alert status will last until Monday, November 5.

Albayalde said the PNP has yet to receive any security threat. (SunStar Philippines)
