Businesswoman dies, husband hurt in gun attack

POLICE authorities are conducting an in-depth probe to unmask the gunmen behind the drive-by gun attack that killed a businesswoman and injured her husband in Zamboanga City.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, identified the fatality as Riyana Yusop, who was rushed but failed to reach the hospital alive.

Galvez said wounded and hospitalized is Yusop’s husband, Marjuni, who sustained multiple bullet wounds.

She said the incident happened at 9:20 p.m. Monday at Sitio Suterville in San Jose Gusu village.

The investigation showed the victims were aboard a motorcycle when repeatedly shot by one of two men riding tandem on another motorcycle that tailed them, the officer added.

She said the suspects sped towards the interior portion of Suterville after the incident. Recovered at the crime scene were 14 empty shells of caliber .45 pistol.

Galvez said all possible motives are being looked into in a bid to establish the motive as well as the suspects behind the incident. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
