Ifugao boxing whiz KO’s Korean challenger

IFUGAO boy wonder Carl Jammes Martin scored another sensational knock out, stopping his taller Korean foe just in the fourth round.

Martin successfully defended his World Boxing Association Asia bantamweight title after knocking out Moon Chul Suh in Lagawe, Ifugao on October 27 to stay undefeated in 11 bouts including 10 stoppage.

The 19-year-old Ifugao boxing sensation had his work cut out for him, landing series of combinations which stunned the visiting Korean who had no answer and was left defenseless most of the times.

Unleashing his flurry of combinations, Martin finally caught up with Moon and uncorked his powerful uppercut to send the Korean crashing to the canvass and end the bout.

“Malaking bagay yung training tsaka sa salamat na rin sa panginoon. Talagang inaral naming ang laban niya,” Martin said in a television interview.

“Proud ako na nakapagbigay ako ng karangalan hindi lang sa Ifugao pati na rin sa bansa,” added the boxing prodigy who also holds the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) oriental youth bantamweight title and the World Boxing Council Asian Boxing Council continental bantamweight title.

Martin bagged the WBA strap after outclassing and overpowering Indonesian boxer George Lumoly earlier this year.

Despite his continued rise to stardom, Martin’s father and trainer Abel sees more exposure for his son and further training to improve his skills and be at par with some of the best and world champion Filipino boxers. (Roderick Osis)
