Don't leave appliances plugged, public reminded

THE Bureau of Fire Protection Davao regional office (BFP-11) reminded the public not to leave their houses with their appliances still plugged to prevent fire incidents.

BFP-11 Public Information Section Fire Chief Inspector Cyrus Medina issued the reminder to be vigilant and observe fire safety during the AFP-PNP press forum.

“In the past few years, during the observance of Oplan Kaluluwa yong bahay na naiiwan, do not leave your appliances unattended. [Dahil] sa pagmamadali [nagkakaroon ng problema sa] electrical connection,” he said.

There are also fire incidents where residents light a candle for their loved ones on their altar and leave it unattended.

The BFP-11 has deployed fire trucks in identified cemeteries.

However, he said the region does not have an ideal one fire truck to 28,000 ratio.

“If you are going to cite the population of Davao region, medyo kulang talaga. Despite of the fact na kulang yong firetrucks natin, it will not hamper our operation, our troops are ready to respond in any kind of emergency. We are ready to render emergency medical service. We have medical practitioners on standby at the same time we have first aiders,” Medina said.

Davao City also lacks fire trucks but Central 911 and active support of the Filipino Chinese Community also respond to emergencies.
