Davao City approves 21 towers

A TOTAL of 21 high-rise buildings were approved by Davao City this year.

Following the mandate of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in her State of the City Address last month, the Office of the City Building Official (OCBO) approved high-rise buildings with up to 33 levels.

The 33-story Aeon Tower, owned by the FTC Group of Companies, would be the tallest building in the city.

The project was approved before the City Government disallowed the construction of high-rise buildings.

“Daghan na na-approved na bag-ong mga buildings, sa application 24 [levels] pero 23 ra gyud na kay wala mana sila 13th [floor] (There are a lot of approved buildings in the city. In their application, they have 24 levels but technically, it is only 23 since they do not have a 13th floor),” Engineer Cirinia Grace Catubig, head of OCBO, said in an interview with SunStar last October 30.

She said some buildings, like the approved condominium towers, will start construction in 2019.

The tallest building projects approved so far are the 28-story and 27-story buildings, both owned by Accendo Commercial Corporation.

The 28-story building will rise in Barangay 20-B Poblacion West, Bajada while the 27-story building will be built along J.P. Laurel Avenue in Barangay 19-B.

Other high-rise projects are the two 28-story buildings owned by the Anchor Land located along C.M. Recto Street and Roxas Avenue in Barangay 34.
