THE Ateneo de Davao University (Addu) women's volleyball team added another feather to its cap by clinching the 2018 Mindanao Peace Games (MPG) women's volleyball tournament title on Wednesday evening at the Father Saturnino Urios (FSU) gym in Butuan City.

The Addu volleybelles also recently won the Davao Association of Catholic Schools (Dacs) 2018 women's volleyball tournament after nine years.

Mentored by veteran coach Shane Alagao, Addu volleybelles dethroned the Holy Cross of Davao College (HCDC) Lady Crusaders via a 21-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, 15-11 upset victory in the finals.

Addu, composed Samantha Dizon, Carol, Joy Concon, Mireya Shayne Louisse Alagao, Karissa Renee Parcon, Elisha Bird, KatherineGayle Bermudez, Quennie Camporedondo, Ingrid Rose Pichon, Heaven Leigh Amisola, Rychel Marie Constantino, Jennifer Ricca Confessor and Jyrylle Moskito, demolished Iligan Medical Center College (IMCC) in the semifinals after a clean slate in the elimination round.

Addu played six grueling games before reaching the finals.

“The team's mindset was to play the game and do what they love most. We really didn't mind winning, what I just told them is to have fun and really enjoy because most of them are graduating, so they must give everything they have for their last year. And for the motivation, since there are half of them graduating, we wanted to offer it to the seniors, that's why the team is motivated to do magic,” Alagao said.

Alagao also said he's proud of his coaching team, thanking Mario and Kirk Mojica and Karen Plaza.

“I am happy that we won in MPG, after all the practices and bruises they had, it was all worth it. I am also happy because we had two championship matches in a row this year, it was a great privilege to be their coach,” he said. (ABM)
