Ghost hunting 101

HAUNTED houses and horror films are usually sought during the last week of October and the first week of November - the time for Halloween, All Saints’ Day and All Souls' Day.

At this time, people act brave enough to search for haunted places and go ghost hunting, possibly because they want proof whether ghosts are real or not.

If you're going on a ghost hunt, it is better to have yourself fully equipped and prepared for the “horrorventure” of your life.

- Flashlights. Ghost hunting is usually done at nighttime, when everything is dark, quiet and eerie. If you're planning on visiting a haunted place, especially an abandoned one where there is no power, bring your flashlights with you.

It’s better to have a light so you could watch out for the stairs and holes on the floor to avoid accidents from happening.

- Digital camera. When hunting ghosts, you need evidences. As such, taking photos of the sites where paranormal activity is high might give you the evidence you need. Apart from photos, you can also use it to shoot videos of the place. Just remember to have it fully charged, bring extra batteries and SD cards.

- Audio recorder. Part of ghost hunting is to talk to the spirits lurking all over the place. You can use it while talking or leave it running while you investigate another area. Your recorder might pick up some eerie sounds like someone crying, moaning, laughing or walking even though no one is present in the area.

- Smartphones. Apart from its use for communication with your co-investigators, your smartphone can be used as flashlight, camera, and voice recorder. But a separate camera, flashlight and audio recorder are better since you can use your phone to contact anyone if something happens during the investigation.

- EMF Detector. The Electromagnetic field (EMF) detector, also known as gauss meter, is another tool you can use to track down ghosts.

It is said that spirit activity will cause a localized spike in energy. The EMF detector will be able to note any changes in the EMF readings in the area which is a sign when a ghost is nearby.

These are just some of the basic equipment you have to secure when going on a ghost hunt. Remember to be smart and avoid putting yourself in any dangerous situations. Happy hunting!
