Tent schools up in Kalinga town

MAKE SHIFT tents are now being set–up in Tanudan, Kalinga after classrooms in Gakalan Elementary School in Barangay Lugu were destroyed by floodwater during the onslaught of Typhoon Rosita.

Tanudan Mayor Johnwell Tigangay said they have coordinated with government line agencies who will provide tents to be placed at a higher area of Lugu and Gakalan for the students to use when they return to school after the weekend.

This concern have also been forwarded to the Department of Education in Kalinga to provide materials to be used by the students and teachers since they were not able to retrieve books and other learning materials from the school.

“We are now identifying the temporary area where the tents for the students and teachers would be placed and we have coordinated with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines for the possibility of them to provide us with the tents,” Tigangay said.

Evacuees from the low lying areas of Kalinga have been advised by the Office of the Civil Defense to refrain from going back to their homes due to the continuous rise of water of the Cagayan river after the release of water coming from Magat Dam in Isabela Province.
