USPF to shoot for Cesafi double

THE University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) looks to close out the series and win a double championship in the high school division of the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) volleyball tournament at the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Gym on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 4.

Defending champion USPF faces University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) in Game 2 of the girls’ division finals at 1:30 p.m. USPF is a win away from reclaiming its crown after winning Game 1 in three sets, 25-18, 25-18, 25-21.

In the boys’ division USPF is also a win from winning the title after beating reigning titleholder University of San Carlos (USC) in a very close game.

Game 1 was decided in five thrilling sets with USC taking the opening set 25-23 before USPF took the lead by taking the next two sets, 25-18, 25-16.

USC forced a fifth and deciding set after winning the fourth set, 25-19. The fifth set was nip-and-tuck and was claimed by USPF, 15-13, after USC was called for touching the net.

Game 2 of the boys’ division will be played after the girls’ division finals at 3:30 p.m.

The last school to claim double championships was Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma after winning both the men’s and women’s divisions last year. EKA
