City of San Fernando bags good local governance seal

AMID the brewing political clashes here in the upcoming 2019 midterm polls, the City Government of San Fernando bagged the 2018 Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG).

This was announced by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) which informed the City of its achievement over the weekend.

In a letter to Mayor Edwin Santiago, DILG Officer-in-Charge Eduardo Año said the City has substantially met the minimum requirements set by the interior department on the SGLG elevated bar of assessment from “four plus one” to “all-in” this year.

The “all-in” seven 2018 SGLG areas are financial administration, disaster preparedness, social protection, peace and order, business-friendliness and competitiveness, environmental management, and tourism, culture and the arts.

Año, in congratulating the City for the accomplishment, said that the DILG hopes the local government unit (LGU) of San Fernando relentlessly strive for excellence in service delivery and commit to being an agent of the “gobyernong may malasakit tungo sa pagbabago at patuloy na pag-unlad.”

He added that with the feat, the City will be entitled to performance challenge fund and other program windows, subject to specific program guidelines.

City government officials will formally accept the SGLG on November at Manila Hotel, in awarding rites themed “SGLG All-In: Reaping the Results of Good Governance.”

For his part, Santiago said that the current City Administration will continue to pursue good governance and not be affected by the changing political backdrop.

“There is time for politics and time for work with Fernandinos in mind. The election is still months away. There is still much we can do and enough time to deliver services to Fernandinos. For now, we will continue to pursue good governance as embodied in the SGLG’s principles of transparency, participation and accountability,” he said. (JTD0)
