Mejos: Locally made, locally good

DO YOU want to take care of your skin and hair without the guilt AND without bruising your wallet? Here are Filipino brands that create good quality vegan, organic, cruelty-free products. Achieve glowing beauty without harming animals, planet earth, and overall making the world a better place for the next generation.

Skin and Hair Care

Beach Born

Beach Born is a Filipino brand dedicated to creating vegan, cruelty-free skin and hair care products. My personal favorites are the Sunset spray, Healing Toner, and Connie Chiwa shampoo bar. All their products are made from all natural ingredients. For environmentally-conscious ladies out there who are searching for plastic-free alternatives, Beach Born sells shampoo and conditioner bars as well as sunblock bar. Follow them on Instagram @beachbornPH. Beach Born products are also available at the Beauty Hub located at Loyola St., Poblacion District, Davao City.

Human Nature

Human Nature sells certified organic products with all plant-derived ingredients. It is driven by its vision of being a brand that is “pro-Philippines, pro-poor, and pro-environment.” Their products are also certified by the Natural Products Association which holds the strictest standard for organic skin and home care products. I’ve been a user of this brand for more than a year now and I am a true fan. They are available online at www.humanheartnature.com, SM Ecoland Davao fronting National Book Store, and at their store at Plaza del Carmen, Bo.Obrero,, Davao City.

Rraw PH

Here’s another local brand beginning to create waves in the cosmetic industry. Cute, creative, and innovative are how I’d describe their products which range from facial skin care to sun care and body care. Rraw PH is dedicated to creating safe and environment-friendly products. They sell shampoo bars too if you want to skip the plastic. Check them out at Instagram @rrawph and at the Rustic Boutique, 2ndflr unit 2016, Santos Building in Quirino Avenue corner Duterte street. For more info follow @earthskin_ph, legit distributor of Rraw PH products.

Other brands you should definitely try: Lush cosmetics PH, Zero Basics, and Be Organic Bath and Body.

Pink Bunny

Pink Bunny is probably one of the most personal local brands you’ll find in the market. The founder herself, Dabawenya Jessa Era Calatrava, personally markets all her products and her skin is always testament of the efficacy of Pink Bunny items. Achieve lighter underarm and that coveted Korean “glass skin” with Pink Bunny products. They also have matte lipsticks as well as lip and cheek tints. Aside from being proudly Filipino-made brand, Pink Bunny is dedicated to creating vegan, cruelty-free products safe for women with different kinds of skin type. Check them out at @pinkbunnymain on Instagram and at their physical store, Luminous Ysobelle Shop at Abreeza Davao on the 2ndflr outside Alberto.

KJM Cosmetics (No foto)

For ladies who can equally rock made-up glam and natural looking “lip tint only” beauty, definitely give KJM cosmetics a try. I can personally vouch for KJM Cosmetics lip and cheek tints. Vegan, cruelty-free and made of all-natural ingredients, these tints provide that wonderful pop of colour to your cheeks and lips without drying it out. No dryness, no bitterness, just pure lip tint goodness with a variety of colours to choose from that’ll suit every Filipina, fair, mestiza, or Morena. Check them out at beautymnl.com or at their physical store at Sonia’s gift shop at Aldevinco, Davao City.

Happy Skin

If you’re familiar with teen star Kathryn Bernardo, then you’ve probably heard of this brand. Happy Skin is dedicated to creating makeup that cares for the skin. Their “Shut up and Kiss Me” lip crayons glide on smoothly on the lips for that kissable pout without the dryness! Achieve that natural glow or glammed up beauty without hurting your skin and lips. Check them out online @happyskin_ph or at physical stores inside department stores and Watson’s.
