Police nab 5 for illegal drugs

FIVE suspected drug peddlers were arrested in four separate police operations in Davao City on Saturday, November 3.

Davao Police Regional Office (PRO-11) Director Marcelo C. Morales said the suspects were under the custody of the operating units while complaints for violation of RA 9165, otherwise known as Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, were being prepared against them.

At around 2:30 p.m., personnel of Sasa Police Station conducted a drug bust in Purok 10, Tibungco, Davao City, leading to the arrest of James Castro, single, 29, public utility jeepney conductor, and Mar Aries Darvin, single, 28, PUJ conductor.

Confiscated from the suspects' possession were sachets of suspected shabu and P500 marked money.

In a separate operation, personnel of Bunawan Police Station launched a buy bust in Bud-bud, Bunawan, Davao City where authorities arrested Alvin Velasco, married, 56, unemployed and a resident of Bagahay, Baliok, Talomo, Davao City. Three sachets of suspected shabu and P500 marked money were seized from his possession.

Personnel of Sta. Ana Police Station likewise arrested a certain Ariel Alfaro alias “Aying”, single, 55, auto mechanic and a resident of IWHA Village, Barangay Dumoy, Davao City.

Recovered from him were four sachets of suspected shabu, one Suzuki Raider motorcycle bearing plate number 51910, and P500 marked money.

Personnel of Sta. Ana Police Station and Task Force Davao jointly conducted a checkpoint in Lasang, Davao City and arrested a certain Rogoven Solis, married, 38, unemployed and a resident of Feeder Road 3, Ramon Magsaysay Avenue, Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte for possession of illegal drugs.

Found in his possession were one sachet of suspected shabu and one caliber .45 pistol without serial number with one magazine, loaded with four live ammunition.

Solis will also be charged with violation of RA 10591 or Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition.

"PRO 11 continues the interventions and countermeasures implemented all throughout the region to deter the occurrences of criminality. This comprises, among others, checkpoint, Oplan Bakal, or Sita, (campaign against loose firearms) and the mobile and foot patrol to enhance crime prevention and crime solution,” Morales said.
