Police clearance now valid gov’t ID

POLICE clearance now comes in the form of an identification card made of polyvinyl chloride.

It can be used in government transactions and is registered in a database linked to all government offices in major cities in the country.

The processing, which was started yesterday, also makes it easier to detect whether a person has a case or not.

Cebu City Police Office Director Royina Garma said they just copied the processes used by the cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu. It was also procured from the same service provider.

This system, which is online, is a big improvement from the manual processing where physical records had to be searched in the archives. Because the database is linked to major cities, it would be easier to check if an applicant has a pending case.

As of yesterday, the system detected a hit, warning officers of a pending case in another place.

She said the system has been approved by Camp Crame, and that the latter might implement this nationwide. Garma tried to get a police clearance and was able to have her ID card and police certificate in five minutes.

Lara Esidera of Easland Printing Ink, the system provider, said the card has its own security features and is only valid for a year, after which it can be renewed.

The cost of getting a police clearance has increased from P160 to P260.

Minda Masa, who applied for a clearance, said she approves of the system since the card will be useful in other transactions. (AYB)
