Suspect in student's murder nabbed

THE suspect in the murder of a college student was caught at 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, November 6, in Mandaue City, Cebu.

Police identified the suspect as Emaelito Familiar Jr., who was tagged as the killer of Charie Mae Mancia inside her rented room in a boarding house in Barangay Tinago, Cebu City last Nov. 4.

Before Mancia was found dead with multiple stab wounds, investigation showed that Mancia's neighboring boardmate told the police that she heard a commotion in the room of the victim.

She later heard Mancia shouting for help. When Mancia fell silent, she decided to go the victim's room. She knocked on the door, but no one opened it. She went back to her room and she later heard footsteps going downstairs.

She went out and saw a man wearing a red shirt and black jeans walking away. A neighbor called for asistance and Tinago barangay tanod called the police. After a team of police officers arrived in the boarding house, they opened Mancia's room and found her lying in her own blood. (KAL)
