Resolution establishes Isabela as top tourist destination in Philippines

THE bid to position Isabela as a top tourist destination in the country has been strengthened through a resolution approved during the 2nd Municipal Convention at the said town recently.

Mayor Joselito Malabor said the resolution was approved by the delegates of the convention including Municipal Government employees, officials of the Department of Education, barangay and youth council, church representatives, and non-government organizations.

Malabor said copies of the resolution will be furnished to the Municipal Council, and central and regional offices of the Department of Tourism (DOT).

"Through this resolution, we now have supporting papers for our request for funding with the Department of Budget and Management," he said, reiterating that based on their Municipal Tourism Development Plan, they are proposing for P2.5 billion worth of projects for five years.

The mayor cited ruins of houses, eco-tourism attractions including falls, and its Holy Mountain as among the major tourism offerings of the town.

Malabor admitted that Isabela is somehow "late" in terms of tourism compared to other already-developed localities in the province.

Thus, part of the strategy of the Municipal Government is to package its offerings along with that of advanced cities and towns.

Malabor said they will push for the inclusion of Isabela in the tourism map of Negros Occidental.

"We will mainly introduce to tourists and visitors those that are not yet being offered by other localities," he said, adding that "we will also tap Bacolod City for the inclusion of our town in their tourism packages."

The local government is also banking on capacitating its human resources, particularly tourism staff, especially in terms of creating better packaging for their tourism products.

"We will also tap the support of government officials, including our representative in Congress, to follow up the approval of the P300 million worth of road network at the DBM," Malabor said.

The road network development is in convergence with the DOT and Department of Public Works and Highways, he added. (EPN)
