WITH breathtaking views and rich historical sites, Rome is home to the most awe-inspiring landmarks in Italy. It is a bucket-list destination for travelers who want to embark on a rich and food-gasmic adventure.
Tree-lined streets, sprawling landmarks, and a ton of history welcomed me the moment I arrive. It is a hot and sunny day and people are out in their short shorts and tank tops while I writhe in my palazzos and long-sleeves just to get the perfect outfit of the day, #OOTD. With nothing to spare, I immediately begin my search for the perfect pizza.
The landscape is dreamy and the view, quite dramatic. My journey begins with a pizza Margherita right off the bat. Just near the Colosseo lies a swarm of coffee shops and pizzerias that will catch your attention.
Trattoria Pizzeria Luzzi offers the best fire-wood pizza. For 8 Euros, one can feast on a huge serving of pizza enough to satisfy the appetite.
Prancing around as if I was transported back to the ancient times, I pass by the Roman Forum and begin to see the splendor of the Colosseum. There is a swarm of tourists flocking in and out the famous spot along with some artists replicating what seems to be the Colosseum in their paintings.
With my feet getting weary, I find a nice place to relax and discover the Terrace of Vittoriano. To get the perfect view of the Roman Forum, climb to the terrace and enjoy a cup of coffee. The building is the best place to chill while gazing out at the rooftops of the downtown Rome, especially during sunset.
As if it’s not enough, we head towards the Piazza Venezia to take some photos and walk to the Fontana Di Trevi to make a wish – true love and a million dollars, if you know what I mean. My colleague brought us some coffee flavored gelato from Vinci and I nibble on it while I marvel at the beauty of the architecture in front of me.
I notice that there is a lot more to Rome’s art scene. Almost everywhere I go, street artists line up and present the unique representation of themselves through paintings and caricatures. It is interesting to witness the legacy that Michelangelo and the pillars of renaissance left.
It is getting dark so we decided to have a nice warm dinner at Armando at The Pantheon, one of the best, they say. I order a bruschetta, cacio e pepe (cheese and pepper pasta) and chardonnay for less than 20 euros. The night is young and so are we, Rome had me falling in love. I dance at the cobblestoned streets, drink at the public fountain, talk to some locals and enjoy the city lights.
