Provincial Board approves tax amnesty for RPT

REAL property owners in Misamis Oriental who have delinquent tax obligations from 2013 and prior years may get a sigh of relief after the Provincial Board approved a tax amnesty for Real Property Tax (RPT).

Board member Gerardo Sabal, vice chairman of the finance committee, said real property owners will no longer pay the penalties, surcharges and interest of RPT from the period 2013 and prior years.

"Ang accrued interests ato nang i-waive ug ang ilang bayaran na lang is ang principal," Sabal said.

But, he said tax penalties for the period 2015 until 2018 must be paid.

Sabal said the tax relief will take effect immediately after the capitol's top executives affix their signature.

"Na-approve ang tax amnesty for RPT the other week and pirma na lang kulang ni Vice Gov. Joey Pelaez ug Gov. Bambi Emano,"Sabal said.

Sabal, however, explained that RPT payers will only be given one year to avail the tax amnesty after it takes effect.

"Kung dili sila ka-comply ug mo-avail sa one-year period ma balik ang ilang penalities," he added.

Sabal said the legislative body has approved the tax amnesty as recommended Governor Yevgeny Emano to lighten the burden of RPT payers.

He said real property owners across the province have been asking for tax relief during public hearings and consultations.

"Gitan-aw nato sa SP ug sa recommendation ni Gov Bambi nga reasonable kini para makatabang sa mga RPT payers nga dili sila mabug-atan sa ilang penalties," Sabal said.

"Gi-aghat nato ang mga RPT payers to avail this opportunity kay dili sa tanang tuig maghatag kita og tax amnesty," he added.
