BACOLOD Mayor Evelio Leonardia led the opening of the 2018 Department of Education (DepEd)-Bacolod Athletic Association Division Meet at Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan on Tuesday, November 6.
Also present in the event were Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran and Councilor Renecito Novero, chair of the City Council committee on education.
The Division Meet is participated by more than 7,000 student-athletes, coaches, and delegation officials from four units of secondary schools and seven districts of elementary schools, and 250 technical officials.
This year's theme is "Stronger Bacolod: Synergy for Sports Supremacy."
DepEd Bacolod supervisor Eden Ariola, who is also the athletics manager, said that among the events to be contested in both levels are arnis, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, chess, football, gymnastics, sepak takraw, sipa, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball.
Bacolod is a separate school division from Negros Occidental. Top winners in the Division Meet will represent Bacolod City in the Palarong Panlalawigan next month. (PR)
