Caluag vindicated with EdSa’s social programs

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Mayoralty aspirant Vilma Caluag said that she is vindicated by the current move of the City Government here to release funds for social service programs.

Caluag said that she credits this “knee-jerk” reaction of Mayor Edwin Santiago to the fact that she had entered the scene in the coming 2019 midterm polls here. Caluag, who is current Barangay Captain of Dolores and a member of the city council, is running against Santiago and three other mayoralty aspirants.

“I feel that I am already a winner if just for the fact that the people of San Fernando are now benefiting from the funds of the city government,” Caluag said, adding that the city government would have been this active in releasing funding for assistance for scholars and medical assistance to indigents if there was no opposition in the coming elections.

Caluag said that she feels vindicated in her decision to run with the current move of the city government.

“But the people of San Fernando should not owe any gratitude to the mayor. These programs and funding are rightfully for the people of San Fernando,” Caluag said, adding that he is confident that the people of the city are intelligent voters and can see right through the move of the city hall.

In a previous interview with Mayor Edwin Santiago at the City Hall during the launching of his “I Love San Fernando Team,” he said that the funding for scholars are being released not because of the upcoming elections but because these are timed with the enrollment of students for the next semester.

He added that the City Government of San Fernando had always been very active with its social service programs as manifested by the awards the city has received in implementing programs in different sectors of its community.

Santiago also cautioned Caluag with her statements adding that as a member of the city council, she should know better.
