BLISTT air quality ‘good’

THE air quality in Baguio, La Trinidad, Itogon, Sablan, Tuba and Tublay (BLISTT) area remains within acceptable level, says Environmental Management Bureau-Cordillera.

At least 10 monitoring stations using manual method for sampling and monitoring were established in the different parts of BLISTT to measure the air quality in the area.

“All results obtained from BLISTT sampling stations were within the National Ambient Air Quality Guideline Value which is 150 microgram per cubic meter,” a report from the Ambient Monitoring Section led by Ambient Monitoring Section Chief Wilhelmina Lagunilla said.

The results were from the sampling stations in EMB-CAR DENR Compound in Baguio City, Municipal Hall Ground in Itogon, Municipal Hall Park in La Trinidad, Municipal Hall Acop, Caponga in Tublay, Municipal Hall in Tuba. They were found within ‘good’ air quality index with range 0 to 54 micrograms per cubic meter.

For Lower Session Road, Plaza Garden in Baguio City and Provincial Capitol in La Trinidad, Municipal Hall Ground in Sablan, Mile Hi Center and Ayala Land Techno Hub in Camp John Hay, results indicate ‘good to fair’ air quality index range which is from 55 to 154 micrograms per cubic meter.

The environment bureau recommended for the serious involvement of concerned agencies to lessen the emission of mobile, area and stationary resources.

It also recommended for an extensive promotion for alternative mode of transportation lice bicycle and electric car.

The monitoring was in compliance of Republic Act 8749 known as the Philippine Clean Air Act of 1999.
