DAVAO City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang said the increase in the annual assistance of the City Government for the conservation of eagles will in turn generate profit and promote tourism in the city.

“This is in support to our eagles, considering that eagles are one of the sites for tourism. Those who are coming here because of the eagle will [in turn] generate income,” Dayanghirang said in a phone interview Wednesday, November 7

.

He said one of the revenue-generating tourist attractions in the city are the eagles.

The Philippine Eagle Conservation Program Foundation Inc., (PECPI) will now receive P1.5 million annual assistance from the city government of Davao instead of P1 million.

The increase, contained in an amendment to the ordinance providing for the annual financial assistance, was approved on third and final reading last Tuesday, November 6.

Dennis Salvador, executive director of the PECPI, requested in a letter for the increase.

Dayanghirang said the request for increase was understandable, given the high inflation rate.

“This amount will certainly help with the conservation of the eagles,” he said.

The PECPI already received the assistance of P1 million for 2017 so they will start receiving the P1.5 million this year, 2018.
