Tell it to SunStar: Impractical trans-axial highway

IF THE Provincial Government wants to pursue the construction of the 310 kilometers trans-axial road, let the people in the hinterland prepare for landslide incidents for the rest of their lives.

We all know that the shape of Cebu is narrow and the mountain is virgin. Now, if you touch the whole length from Santander to Medellin towns, remember the three mountain barangays in the City of Naga. The hills there were not even fully quarried yet they moved during heavy rains and landslide occurred.

I suggest that, to solve the traffic problems in Cebu, we should widen the existing roads around the island and construct more detours along or parallel the said existing roads. That is the best solution.

I believe no private investor will participate in this project since the return of investment for it will take more than 100 years. The reason is that business groups, haulers and individuals will always pass the existing roads where the town centers are located. (Archt. Gabriel F. Abear)
