THE City Government of Bacolod is all set for the Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibitions Conference (Micecon) on November 27 to 29.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia said on Wednesday, November 7, he already signed a letter to the City Council asking them to give him an authority to sign the memorandum of agreement to be entered into by and between the City Government and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB).
“We held a meeting on Monday and as of the moment, no major problem has been presented to me,” he said.
TPB is tasked to formulate and implement an integrated domestic and international promotions and marketing program for Philippine tourism.
The TPB is also responsible for marketing and promoting the Philippines domestically and internationally as a major global tourism destination.
Mice also refers to business events that entail a large convergence.
Leonardia said that in the tourism world, this is a specialized program that is prestigious and very lucrative.
“This is something that is very prestigious and our hosting will mean that we are also now in the league of big players in the tourism industry,” he said.
The Micecon event will be held at the SMX Convention Center.
In April, after the TPB’s evaluation between Bacolod and Clark, Leonardia was informed that Bacolod was chosen to host the Micecon 2018.
“So if we have beaten them (the Clark) that means, this people in the tourism industry has seen the potentials of Bacolod and we have to avail that,” Leonardia said.
For the magnitude and the quality of the event, he assumed that Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat will attend the activity adding this this is a high-end aspect of tourism.
Councilor Em Ang, chairperson of the City Council committee on tourism, earlier said Micecon is the biggest gathering of the country's influential professionals and practitioners involved in Mice.
She said at least 600 participants from the Mice industry are expected to attend like airlines, hotels, resorts, convention centers, event organizers and exhibit organizers. (MAP)
