1 dead, 2 wounded in shooting

A MAN was shot dead while two others were wounded in separate shooting incidents in the cities of Bacolod and Escalante, Negros Occidental, November 6.

The fatality was identified as Segundino de Oro Jr., 40, who hailed from Escalante City.

De Oro was sitting in front of a sari-sari store in Barangay Balintawak when an unidentified assailant, whose face was covered with a handkerchief, fired at him twice at close range.

De Oro sustained gunshot wounds on his face. He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead.

Police recovered from the crime scene two fired cartridges of .45 caliber.

Police record shows that De Oro has previous cases on illegal possession of firearms and explosives, robbery, carnapping, and was allegedly involved in illegal drugs and series of robbery hold-up in the city.

Police have yet to determine the motive of the shooting incident.

In Bacolod City, a misunderstanding on the parking space of a business establishment triggered an armed encounter between a tricycle driver and a security guard in BS Aquino Drive, Barangay Villamonte past 7 a.m.

Senior Inspector Rey Tolosa Jr. of Police Station 4, identified the victims as Gerry Nemenzo, 49, a tricycle driver; and Jose Postrano, 56, a security guard.

Tolosa said Nemenzo confronted Postrano about the issue on the parking space when he saw the latter November 7.

Tolosa said that Postrano has been telling Nemenzo to refrain from parking his tricycle at the parking area of the establishment since it is only intended for the customers, but it made Nemenzo angry.

Nemenzo allegedly challenged Postrano into a fight but the latter resisted.

Nemenzo then shot him and the latter retaliated.

Postrano was able to get Nemenzo's firearm and struck him on the head.

Nemenzo sustained two gunshot wounds and was brought to Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.

Postrano sustained three gunshot wounds and was rushed to the Doctor's Hospital.

Police recovered from the crime scene some fired cartridges of .38 caliber service firearm of Postrano, and Nemenzo's .45 caliber pistol.

Tolosa said they will ask for a copy of a closed circuit television camera (CCTV) footage from a nearby establishment to check who started the fight.

“We will review the CCTV to determine the charges to be filed but he said that Nemenzo will also be charged for illegal possession of firearm,” Tolosa added. (GYM)
