TWELVE barangay workers in two villages in Cebu City might soon lose their jobs for testing positive of illegal drugs.

Last Monday, Nov. 5, the City Office for Substance Abuse Prevention (Cosap) administered a surprise drug test on more than 350 workers and officials from Barangays Guadalupe and Sapangdaku.

Of those who tested positive, eight were from Guadalupe, while the rest were from Sapangdaku.

Cosap chief Garry Lao said his office will recommend the termination of these workers.

Cosap though, has yet to determine if these workers are tanods or garbage loaders.

In Guadalupe, 280 workers and officials underwent the surprise drug test, while only 76 out of the 81 workers and officials of Barangay Sapangdaku did the same.

Earlier, Lao said five workers of Barangay Sapangdaku were not able to join the drug test, while another two failed to participate because they were confined in the hospital.

"It's up to the barangay captain as to the reason why their employee failed to undergo the drug test. Cosap will only facilitate their request for drug test," Lao said.

Cosap also administered a separate surprise drug test last Wednesday, Nov. 7 on 106 out of 124 workers and officials in Barangay Cogon Pardo.

Lao said results will be out within the week. (RTF)
