‘Thief’ killed in Davao police ops

A THEFT suspect was killed while two other cohorts are still at large during an armed confrontation Thursday dawn, November 8, at Lapu-Lapu Street, Barangay 15-B, Davao City.

Based on the police report, about 12:30 a.m. Thursday, while Davao City Police Office (DCPO) personnel were conducting monitoring and clearing operation around the area, they caught three men who climbed on a parked ten-wheeler truck fronting Cantilan Bank along Lapu-Lapu Street.

The cops approached the men and identified themselves as the police. This prompted the men to run and the cops to chase them. During the chase, one of the suspects pulled a handgun and fired it towards one of the operatives, who returned fire hitting the suspect.

The armed suspect was identified as Jayson Jacob Balaga, 20, from Barangay Leon Garcia, Agdao who was also one of the station’s identified R.A.T. Tugis (Robbery/Hold-up, Akyat Bahay and Theft) personality.

The team rushed the suspect to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for medical treatment but he died at the hospital. His two other cohorts evaded arrest and fled to an unknown direction.

The Regional Crime and Laboratory Office recovered in the crime scene two fired cartridge cases of believed to be .9mm, one piece homemade .38 cal revolver loaded with three live ammunition, and one fired cartridge case now in their custody.

Also recovered is a color blue pack bag containing assorted clothing and P500 that was taken by the suspect and owned by Ernie Corminal Cualbar, 31, a Truck Helper who resides in Mangagoy, Agusan del Sur.
