CSAV Titans beat Iloilo Doctors College in PCCL elims, 102-82

COLEGIO de Sta. Ana de Victorias, reigning Negros Occidental Private School Sports, Cultural and Educational Association men’s basketball champion demolished Iloilo Doctor’s College, defending Iloilo Schools Sports Association titlist, 102-82, on Friday, November 9, in the Philippine Collegiate Champions League Region 6 elimination knockout game at STI-West Negros University gym in Bacolod City.

The Victorias-based Titans jump started with a 7-0 run but fizzled out in the latter part of the first quarter allowing the visiting Ilonggos a 28-24 advantage.

IDC pushed further in the second canto at 36-26 after four minutes but CSAV center JR Issakadoula controlled the boards and Jeffrey Manday burned the hoops to take the lead 38-36 with 2:24 ticks left. IDC proved to be a tough customer and tied 44-all at the half.

A 17-0 spurt by CSAV at the start of third shocked IDC before scoring with six minutes left in the period. Coach Elvis Atinado rested Manday and Issakadoula the rest of the remaining time as CSAV continued the onslaught for a 73-57 count going to the fourth.

The host squad upped its advantage to 89-69 with 4:44 left and coasted to its easy win in this event hosted by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas provincial head Tony Agustin.

Agustin said that CSAV will represent Western Visayas to the PCCL Zonal Elimination in Davao early next month. “The winner of this zonal will advance to the PCCL National Championship in Manila,” he added.
