A GROUP of students coming from different schools and universities in Negros Occidental has thanked the Provincial Government for the free access of laboratory services at the Provincial Feed and Meat Laboratory.
The students paid a courtesy visit to Governor Alfredo G. Marañon Jr. at the Provincial Capitol Building in Bacolod City on Tuesday, November 6.
They have been conducting their research studies requiring laboratory analysis at the facility, which is under the supervision of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO).
PVO, in a statement, said the sustained effort and investment of the Provincial Government in establishing and operating the laboratory have inspired students to get hands-on experience in conducting their researches and advance their learning in the field of science and technology.
The province has designated competitive, highly-skilled and qualified veterinarians and laboratory personnel at the Provincial Feed and Meat Laboratory to provide efficient technical assistance to its clients, including students.
Aside from materials and equipment, they also guide students in doing hands-on activities like experiments, it said.
“The availability of laboratory facilities in the course of students’ research experience is seen to create a great impact in their problem solving and critical thinking skills and further aid in their experiential and practical learning,” it added.
Moreover, PVO said that allowing students to use the facility for several years now has contributed to improving their science literacy especially in the aspect of livestock and poultry development utilizing a student-friendly approach.
Among the educational institution whose students have availed the services of the laboratory include Carlos Hilado Memorial State College, Colegio San Agustin-Bacolod, Doña Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School, Hinigaran National High School, National Science High School, Negros Occidental High School, Riverside College, Tabao National High School, St. John’s Institute-Senior High School, University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos Integrated School and University of St. La Salle particularly its Bachelor of Science in Food and Technology students.
