Woman dead, 2 hurt in highway ‘hit and run’

A WOMAN died, while two of her companions were injured in a “hit and run” incident in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police said Saturday, November 10.

Chief Inspector Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula information officer, said the incident happened around 3:30 a.m. Friday along the national highway in Picanan village, Kumalarang, Zamboanga del Sur.

She identified the fatality as Laila Mangilin, 42, who expired while under treatment in the hospital. Wounded and hospitalized were Abdillaha Glang, 56, and Abdul Azis Glang, 7.

Galvez said investigation showed the victims were aboard a motorcycle driven by Abdillaha when they were sideswiped by a white “Bongo-type” vehicle in Picanan, Kumalarang.

The victims were traveling to General Santos City from Salipyasin village, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay at the time of the incident, the police officer added.

She said the vehicle that sideswiped the victims immediately sped off after the incident. (Bong Garcia/SunStar Philippines)
