Y-Speak: Don't be a victim of fake news

ARE you fond of sharing news on your social media? Have you ever thought that maybe these news are just made up? Think again. Remember, when we share fake news, we spread rumors and lies.

People nowadays are gullible in sharing fake news on their social media sites. You can’t trust everything that you see on the internet but in this age where we can easily have access to our social media accounts, we tend to confuse fake news with facts. Without any validation, people think that everything that comes from the internet, it must be true.

How can we identify and label a viral fake news stories flagged by these account users on social media? It is fast and simple.

First, we must know the identity and information of the website that have carried real news. We must be suspicious and skeptical when it comes to checking facts and news that are obviously fake. We can easily spot fake news when it comes to the credibility of the website where the news was carried from. We can distinguish fake news from real ones by simply confirming from another reliable website.

Fake news flare up to the extent where people have let malicious stories run on their accounts. To help social media users better sort out fact from fake news, we must be watchful on everything that we share and post on our social media. We should refrain our friends and family members from sharing hoax and fake news to their news feeds and inform them the risk for sharing false information.

And lastly, we must educate ourselves from validating factual details before posting and sharing news to our social media platforms. (Quincy Jane Fudalan)
