City deploys 4 buses for call center agents

STARTING Monday, Nov. 12, the Cebu City Government will provide free bus rides for business process outsourcing (BPO) employees of the city.

In a Facebook post, Mayor Tomas Osmeña announced the development in fulfillment of his promise to the call center agents.

The project will be named Ce-Bus with two major routes from and to Cebu I.T. Park where most of the BPO companies are located.

Route 1 will have JM Del Mar Ave.and Geonzon St., as designated bus stops inside the I.T. Park. The bus will alsot stop at J.Y. Square, Cebu Provincial Capitol, Fuente Osmeña, Harrison Park, Abellana National School.

Route 2 will have designated stops at F. Cabahug Church, Mabolo Church, Hipodromo, T. Padilla, S. Osmeña St., corner Osmeña Blvd., Metro Colon.

It will serve the BPO workers from midnight to 6 a.m.

Department of General Services (DGS) Chief Ronald Malacora said the bus ride will be free for all call center agents.

Malacora said they will use four buses for the free ride.

“Two of the four buses will serve Route 1 and another two will serve Route 2. We are utilizing our existing buses for this program,” Malacora said.

The program will not cost the City too much since the budget for the fuel and salary of the drivers is taken from the DGS’s existing budget, Malacora said.

“The City will not spend much for it since we already have a fuel allocation for these buses and existing drivers,” he said.

Earlier, Osmeña promised BPO workers that the City will be providing them free rides for their safety considering that they work mostly during night time.
