AUTHORITIES scoured the northern Cebu seas in the past two days, going after fishermen who used explosives and other prohibited fishing tools.

The operatives, led by Police Regional Office (PRO)-Central Visayas Director Debold Sinas, arrested 17 persons and confiscated several prohibited fishing devices, including dynamites.

At 12 p.m. Sunday, November 11, police implemented seven search warrants and conducted 16 seaborne patrols, resulting in the arrest of 13 illegal fishers, two persons possessing explosives and two violators of municipal ordinance that bans non-residents from fishing.

Operatives seized two dynamites, hand grenade, gun, 25 kilos of ammonium nitrate (an ingredient in making a dynamite) and fishing equipment.

PRO-Central Visayas personnel got help from the teams deployed by Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, Cebu Provincial Police Office and Regional Maritime Unit. (KAL)
