23,000 Central Luzon folks benefit from cash transfer program

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- More than 23,000 individuals belonging to the marginalized sector over the weekend received financial assistance from the national government under the Unconditional Cash Transfer program.

A total of 23,321 indigents from the seven provinces in the region received P2,400 each covering the whole year.

This is a form of incentive for the marginalized sector following the government’s implementation of Tax Reform Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law.

From the figure, 748 of the recipients are from Aurora; 3,618 from Bataan; 1,311 from Bulacan; 7,728 from Nueva Ecija; 4,389 from Pampanga; 3,554 from Tarlac; and 1,973 from Zambales.

“UCT is a program under the TRAIN law. It is designed to provide Php200 per month in 2018 and Php300 per month in 2019 to 2020 to 4.4 million Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program beneficiaries, 3 million Social Pension Program beneficiaries and 2.4 million Listahanan beneficiaries all over the country,” said Department of Social Welfare and Development Region III Director Gemma Gabuya.

Gabuya reiterated that the activity is neither a project nor a program of any incumbent elected official or known individual who recently filed their Certificate of Candidacy in the 2019 midterm elections.

She issued the clarification to prevent the program from being used by individuals, particularly incumbent officials, on their political propaganda for the coming elections, Gabuya said.

“We remind the public that local officials are good partners in program implementation, however, the same have no power in the inclusion and exclusion processes of national DSWD programs and services,” Gabuya added.
