THE craftsmanship and ingenuity of 10 of Davao Region’s best fashion and design artisans were highlighted as they participated in the recently concluded 68th Manila FAME, a prestigious lifestyle and design event, held in Metro Manila.
Crystal Seas, Davao Fashion and Design Council, EJ Pasia, Great Gifts and Souvenirs International, Maria Vinecraft, Niñofranco, T’nalak Home, Tulogan Cococraft, Wow Carmen and Yvette’s Bags and Beads Collection awed the many buyers of the international trade event organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM). The premier gathering of talented designers featured several kinds of holiday gifts and décor, furniture and furnishing and fashion accessories proudly Philippine-made for the global market.
The designer-entrepreneurs, who were part of the Davao pavilion during the fair, underwent some activities and interventions facilitated by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 11 and Mindanao Trade Expo (MTE) prior to joining the 68th Manila FAME. These were aimed at preparing them further to widen their market reach as a number of institutional buyers are among the regular visitors of the event.
Last August 2 to 4, the participants from the region had an in-depth training on product development with award-winning artist Tes Pasola and Detleft Klatt. They were given a design path to follow which includes the four themes: nude + pastel, nude + spice, nude + earth and nude + luster.
Last August 3, a seminar on export essentials was conducted as well, while on September 25, CITEM prepared them for the grand show.
The region’s participation in the second show of Manila FAME this year generated P18.652 million in total sales, including cash, booked and those which are still under negotiation.
The successful conduct of the event has encouraged the micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to join in the next Manila FAME in April 2019.
