Fire hits Silay City school

EIGHT classrooms of Doña Monserrat Lopez Memorial High School in Silay City, Negros Occidental was razed by fire on November 11.

The fire broke out at 5 p.m. and immediately spread to other classrooms made of light materials in the vicinity.

Based on the initial investigation of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), the fire was caused by faulty electrical wiring.

It left an estimated damage of P500,000.

The fire was put out at 5:25 p.m. No casualties were reported.

About 400 students from Grade 8 occupy the affected classrooms.

Despite the incident, classes will resume on November 12.

School principal Rodito Badian, in a media interview, said they will try to provide temporary classrooms for the students.

Meanwhile, Mayor Mark Golez will hold an emergency school board meeting on November 12 to discuss the funds to be used for the construction of the new classrooms. (GYM)
