Councilor supports MMDA's traffic study in Bacolod

BACOLOD City Councilor Dindo Ramos, chairperson of the City Council committee on transportation and traffic, welcomed the help of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on the traffic situation in the city.

But he said the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) should lead to solve our traffic situation because it has its own expertise.

He said an assistance from any agency is a big help to improve the traffic situation in Bacolod.

Last month, Mayor Evelio Leonardia held a meeting with MMDA chairman Danilo Lim, general manager Jose Arturo Garcia, and Traffic and Engineering Center director Neomie Recio at their head office in Manila to discuss the proposed "Traffic Master Plan for Bacolod City."

On December 2 to 15, about 15 MMDA traffic experts, led by Recio, will arrive in Bacolod to study the traffic situation in the city.

The City Government had earlier requested the MMDA to study the traffic situation in Bacolod and make recommendations on how it can be improved.

The MMDA performs planning, monitoring and coordinative functions, and in the process exercises regulatory and supervisory authority over the delivery of metro-wide services within Metro Manila.

Meanwhile, Ramos is proposing to establish an additional public utility jeepney (PUJ) terminal beside the public market in Barangay Handumanan.

Ramos, who held a public hearing with the transport operators and officials of Barangay Handumanan on Friday, said the existing PUJ terminal in Zone 12 poses several problems of traffic congestion, a hazard to commuters and obstruction to other vehicles particularly the fire trucks, garbage trucks, and buses that travel within the barangay.
