Ex-Davao administrator named Bong Go's replacement

PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has tapped Undersecretary Jesus Melchor Quitain as officer-in-charge of the Office of the Special Assistant to the President (SAP).

Quitain's new designation was made through a memorandum that Executive Salvador Medialdea signed on November 9, by order of the President.

Quitain replaced Duterte's long-time aide, erstwhile SAP Christopher Lawrence "Bong" Go, who resigned from his post on October 15 to seek a Senate seat in the 2019 midterm elections.

In the November 9 memorandum, Medialdea said Quitain's appointment as Duterte's temporary special aide was "effective immediately."

Quitain has been with the SAP's office, serving as an undersecretary before being promoted as its officer-in-charge.

He served as the administrator of the Davao City government when Duterte was still the mayor.

On October 24, Duterte named Police Senior Inspector Sofia Loren Deliu as Go's replacement.

Go, however, clarified that Deliu will only serve as a close-in aide and will not hold a rank of Secretary. (SunStar Philippines)
