Ngoi bags title in 2018 NBTC Open

ALEX NGOI JR. of PBA-Jackson Tours snagged the top honors in the 2018 NBT Open Tenpin Bowling Championships after beating Micmic Miranda, 221-176, in the Open Masters finals on Sunday, Nov. 11, at the SM City Cebu Bowling Center.

Ngoi outlasted Miranda by 45 pins in the championship game to capture the Open Masters crown and the P80,000 cash prize.

Ngoi was seeded number one after the qualifying round with a total score of 2,192 in a 10-game series, giving him an automatic slot in the finals.

The second to fifth ranked bowlers Joshua Galarse (2,098), Manny Bueno (2,069), Luis Barredo (2,042) and Micmic Miranda (2,039) played in the step-ladder quarters and semis.

The fifth-seeded Miranda bucked the odds in the quarterfinals as he shot 235 to stun third-seeded Bueno of Sugarbowl Tenpin Bowling Association Inc. (Stbai) and fourth-ranked Luis Barredo of Team Datbi, who scored 230 and 192, respectively.

Miranda did it again in the semifinals, beating the second-ranked Joshua Galarse of Datbi, 192-189, en route to the duel against Ngoi in the championship game.

Miranda settled for second place and the P40,000 cash prize. Galarse took third place and P20,000; Bueno finished at fourth place and earned P10,000; while Barredo finished at fifth place and got P5,000.

Completing the Top 10 in the qualifying rounds are Ulene Rule of Davao Tenpin Bowling Association (Datba) with 2,036, Clyde Lim of Cetba with 2,025, Nestor Ranido of Stbai with 2,024, Mark Li also from Datba with 2,023 and Ariel Yelo of Stbai with 2,013.

The six-day tournament, organized by Cetba, started on Nov. 6. The event, joined by hundreds of bowlers from different parts of the country, was one of the legs in the 2018 National Bowling Tour. (RSC)
