RMMC booters win MPG title

GENERAL Santos City-based Ramon Magsaysay Memorial College (RMMC) nipped Xavier University of Cagayan de Oro City, 2-1, to clinch the 2nd Mindanao Peace Games (MPG) Football Inter-Invitation 11-A-side 24 under Men Tournament title at the Tionko field over the weekend.

RMMC swept all its games in the single round-robin format bootfest before playing XU in the championship.

The Diego Laguna-coached RMMC was bannered by Keith Bryan Azucenas, Cyrel June Baybay, Ralph Lorence Burgos, Ralf Castillo, Mc Allen Colobong, Jacob Florentino, Cresnan Gumanit, Shine Vincent Pedrano, Adams Nicole Berongan, Christian Baybay, Reymart Mandani, Andrew Job Poliquit, Earnest Frengie Porlas and Raven John Uy.

Assistant coaches were Louie Belascuain and Zeus Sayson.

In the battle for third, University of Southeastern Philippines (Usep) defeated Ateneo de Davao University, 4-2.

Organizer Celina Simone Jaldon, who earlier said that the event does not only foster competition but friendship and goodwill, plans to invite more teams for next year's edition of the meet.

"Yes, hopefully we will have more teams. We hope to have at least six next year," she told SunStar Davao via Facebook.
