PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte, through Proclamation 621, has declared March 22, 2019 as "Emilio Aguinaldo Day" to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of the country's first president.

Under Proclamation 621, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) was delegated as the lead agency for the celebration of Aguinaldo's 150th birth anniversary.

"As the first President of the Republic, Aguinaldo symbolized the desire of the nation to be self-reliant, independent and free from oppression," Duterte said in the proclamation.

Duterte said the NHCP may convene an inter-agency task force to plan, coordinate and implement effectively all programs, projects and activities relative to Aguinaldo's 150th anniversary in March next year.

He also enjoined all government offices, including government-owned or -controlled corporations and educational institutionas at all levels, to give "full support and assistance, consistent with their respective mandates," to the NHCP in the exercise of its responsibilities under the proclamation.

The funding for the various commemorative activities concerning Aguinaldo's birth anniversary celebration would be sourced from the concerned agencies's regular appropriations.
