Cop victimized by ‘basag-kotse’ gang

A POLICE chief inspector on Sunday, November 11, lost his government-issued firearm and some personal belongings to the “basag-kotse” gang in Barangay San Francisco, Mabalacat, Pampanga.

Chief Inspector Rainier Mercado, a member of Philippine National Police (PNP) and a resident of Barangay Bundagul, Mabalacat, parked his Toyota Fortuner along MacArthur Highway in Barangay San Francisco to attend a worship service.

Upon returning to his vehicle, he discovered that the right passenger window had been destroyed. Mercado was with his wife and daughter.

Investigators said Mercado’s sling bag containing an Asus Zenphone Max 3, a 32-gigabyte USB flash drive, a 32-gb Apple iPad and his service firearm, a Glock 17 Gen 4 pistol with serial number 10605100 and an inserted magazine loaded with ammunition, were taken.

Police have requested a copy of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the area to identify the perpetrators. (Ric Sapnu)
