Lim asks DWPH to fast track lighting of Coastal Highway

LIGA ng mga Barangay president Kag. Alam Lim has asked the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to fast track the installation of streetlights in the coastal road from Gusa to the Agora Market area.

In the weekly radio program of the Liga ng mga Barangay Kaabag sa Kalambuan sa Barangay last Sunday, Lim said he made the follow up after Mayor Oscar Moreno agreed that the City Government will shoulder the electricity bills for the streetlights.

Gusa barangay chairman Marlo Tabac said it is queer that the coastal road project which took 20 years to finish does not have street lighting component.

Tabac said lighting up the coastal road will make easier the work of the barangay to maintain peace and order in the area. It would also make the road safer to the motorists and pedestrians.

Former Lapasan barangay Captain Omar Labuntog thanked Kag. Lim for getting out of his way, following up the streetlight project funding up to DPWH Sec. Mark Villar.

“We need this kind of leadership, silent but working hard and getting results,’ Labuntog said.

Lim said, the office of secretary Villar assured that they will look for funds for the coastal road street lighting hopefully before the year ends.

Lim also said that he is supporting ongoing DPWH projects like the extension of the JR Borja Extension and the drainage and flood control. It is important he said for DPWH to continue these projects.

The president of the Liga ng mga Barangay also said that for the first time, hinterland barangays have gotten a taste of street lighting. As part of the conversion from sodium light bulbs to energy efficient LED streetlights in the city, usable sodium lights were given to some of the rural barangays. He added that soon, the conversion into LED lights all streetlights the city, which started last year will soon be completed.

The radio program Kaabag sa Kalambuan sa Barangay airs at 11am to 12nn every Sunday over at 99.9 Magnum News FM. (PR)
