EIGHT more centenarians from Bacolod City have received cash incentives of P100,000 each from the City Government Monday, November 12.

Mayor Evelio Leonardia, assisted by Councilors Cindy Rojas and Em Ang, turned over the checks to five centenarians at the City Mayor’s Office Monday afternoon.

The Department of Social Services and Development (DSSD) personnel later went to the houses of three more centenarians to hand over the checks.

Leonardia honored the centenarians and thanked their family for taking good care of their old family members.

“It’s a blessing that you have reached 100 years old or more. And I’m glad that the government has already institutionalized this kind of program for our centenarians,” the mayor said.

The eight centenarians who received cash incentives were Trinidad Piccio, 103, from Barangay Mansilingan; Prudencia Hechanova, 102, from Barangay Sum-ag; Ines Benavidez, 100, from Barangay Villamonte; Estrella Balida, 103, from Barangay Handumanan; Patricio Sioson, 101, from Barangay Taculing; Diosdada Caspe, 101, from Barangay Taculing; Flora Togle, 102, from Barangay Estefania; and Hermilinda Elordi, 100, from Barangay 39.

Two of the centenarians Balida and Caspe said their secrets to longevity are proper diet and regular exercise.

The cash incentives were given by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and facilitated by the city’s Department of Social Services and Development.

Bacolodnon centenarians are entitled to P100,000 cash incentives from the city government by virtue of City Ordinance No. 09-16-789, authored by Councilor Caesar Distrito, that was passed by the City Council in October 2016. (PR)
