Bizman asks Baciwa report on BBWI projects

FRANK Carbon, executive officer of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is asking the Bacolod Water City Water District (Baciwa) to give the public an update about the projects of Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI).

"October is over. What happened to Injection Point No. 2 of BBWI? They said that they are going to give Bacolod City additional water supply in October through Injection Point No. 2,” Carbon said.

He said they heard about BBWI's problem on water rights and right of way for the Injection Point No. 1 and Injection Point No. 2 projects, respectively.

Carbon said that as far as they are concerned, they were informed that BBWI has not yet corrected the violation they have committed on their contract with Baciwa for Injection Point No. 1 and they have no water rights on their source of water now.

"The people of Bacolod, especially those having no water supply from Baciwa yet, have been asking when Baciwa could supply them with potable water," he said.

Carbon also said that they would like to know on the status of the loans acquired by Baciwa through the Local Water Utilities Administration with much higher interest compared to the interest offered by some banks.

Baciwa general manager Juliana Carbon earlier said they expect that the BBWI would be able to comply with their promise that Injection Point No. 2 could operate and provide additional water on or before October 31.

The latest information they got from BBWI was that they were still having problems on the right of way and the land conversion for their Water Treatment Plant.

The BBWI is a consortium majority owned and led by Tubig Pilipinas Inc. Group. Through the Ngalan water treatment plant, it is currently supplying more than 15,000 cubic meters of potable water to Baciwa.

Based on their contract with Baciwa, Injection Point No. 2 should have been operational simultaneous with Injection Point No. 1. (TDE)
