No progress yet on case vs Mintal mall

A CITY councilor disclosed that there is no progress yet on the pending case of Gaisano Capitol Mall in Barangay Mintal, Davao City.

Davao City Councilor Melchor Quitain Jr. said during the Pulong-Pulong ni Pulong Tuesday, November 13, they cannot make decisions against the mall because they are still waiting for the court decision.

"It's best that we await the decision if ang case gyud nag prosper na ba, (It's best that we wait the decision to see if the case has already prospered)," Quitain said.

Should the court decide in favor of the mall, the City Council may tackle matters on the reclassification of the land where the mall was constructed. This decision, if it does happen, will also allow the mall to secure needed permits and pay penalties.

“I’m sure they’re willing to settle whatever fines or penalties that may be imposed due to the construction of the structure,” Quitain added.

It can be recalled that the City Government of Davao sued the Cebu-based Taipan Development Inc. on June 28, 2017 for failing to present permits and clearances before the construction of the mall in a residential area and a water resource zone in Catalunan Pequeño.
