DPWH called out on ‘improper execution’ of road projects

MISAMIS Oriental Provincial Board Member President Elipe is seeking clarification on the procedure of implementing national-funded road projects which have hampered traffic flow and inconvenienced the public.

In his special report, Elipe said he wanted to correct what for him is the improper execution of road projects by the Department of Public Works and Highways Northern Mindanao (DPWH-10).

In road concreting, for instance, Elipe said workers begin the repair activities at the center of the road then widen the road later. This, he said, causes disturbance.

"Unahon unta ang widening sa both lanes ayha guba-on ang tunga para dili maperwisyo ang katawhan. They should consider the traffic and safety sa motorists and public," Elipe said.

"Daghan projects sa highway sa Misamis Oriental nga akong namatikdan nga ingon ani ang pamaagi busa gusto nato kini ma-rectify for safety ug aron dili masayang ang trabaho sa gobyerno," he added.

Elipe said the DPWH regional office has blamed the budget releases, but he was not convinced.

The DPWH-Northern Mindanao was invited to appear before the council during its session Monday, November 12, to clarify and explain how they carry out their road projects.

"I'm not convinced sa excuse sa DPWH nga they are saying nga mas una ang budget nga ayuhon ang dalan unya ulahi ang widening. I don't buy it," Elipe said.

Concerns on electric posts and trees on the road were also raised during the plenary, prompting the board to summon the Misamis Oriental Rural Electric Cooperative 1 and 2 and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) to shed light on this during the next session.

Elipe said they would then craft resolutions after hearing all parties.

"Continuing pani ug atong gusto i-verify sa Moresco kining about sa poste ug sa DENR kanin sa isyu sa kahoy ayha ta kabuhat og resolution kung tan-aw nato aha nga opisina ang pabaya sa ana nga responsibility," Elipe said.

"Unfair man pud nga ipasangil sa DPWH especially sa issue sa poste nga dili katanggal mao dili ma-implement ang projects sa DPWH," he added.
