Military accuses NPA of lying on Isabela ‘attack’

IT’S a blatant lie.

This was stressed by Colonel Benedict Arevalo, commanding officer of the 303rd Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army based in Murcia, Negros Occidental.

He was reacting to the statement of the New People’s Army (NPA) which claimed they attacked a military detachment in Barangay Libas, Isabela on November 10.

The Leonardo Panaligan Command (LPC)-NPA sent a press statement to the media Tuesday, November 13, claiming the attack resulted in several casualties on the part of the government forces.

The group alleged the military hid the number of casualties during the incident. They said the group committed it as an answer to the series of human rights violations reportedly perpetrated by the military in central Negros.

The group also admitted another attack on November 13 at the military detachment in Barangay Hinakpan, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Arevalo denounced the statement of the NPA, saying it was not true.

“We cannot hide our casualties because we always honor our heroes,” he said.

Arevalo said the rebels are just trying to take away their attention by creating lies.

“Grabe ang lakas ng loob nila!” he added.

They are just making up stories about their supposed “tactical offensives” to please their higher command, Arevalo said, adding it was just for their “compliance.”

The higher command would always take their side even if the military denies their alleged offensive attacks, he said.

Arevalo said issuing false statements is just another modus for them to comply, as a basis to get support from the higher command.
