Ferrer now unopposed for vice governor

FORMER Fourth District representative Jeffrey Ferrer is now unopposed in his bid for vice governor in the May 13, 2019 elections.

His supposed opponent, Raul Baterna of Sagay City, withdrew his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office on November 12.

In his statement of withdrawal, Baterna stated that he has filed his COC as an independent candidate for vice governor of the province of Negros Occidental on October 1.

"After much thought, I am hereby withdrawing my candidacy," Baterna stated.

He did not state if he will have any substitute for his candidacy.

Ferrer, when asked for comment, said that Baterna may have realized that the province and the Provincial Council will be in good hands under his care.

"His decision to withdraw his candidacy is [a] welcome [development]. He may have also realized that his advocacies are already included in my advocacies. Running without machinery is also difficult,” Ferrer added.
