3 golds eyed for Team Mindanao

DAVAO City's athletics team targets at least three gold medals for Team Mindanao-Philippines in the upcoming 10th BIMPNT-Eaga Friendship Games in Brunei.

Seasoned coach Emilio "Toto" Lacanaria, in a phone interview with SunStar Davao yesterday, cited Philippine National Games 2018 gold medalist Diana Mae Memoracion of Emar Human and Environmental College, PNG medalists Mark Anthony Caseñas of the University of Mindanao and Norman Carl Luardo of Maa National High School as strong contenders for golds in their respective events.

The team has been training for the biennial Games at the Olympic-standard UM track oval.

"Arang-arang pud ang tyansa nga maka gold kay praktisado naman mga bata (We have a good chance in winning golds since the athletes have trained hard for it)," said Lacanaria who will be joined by veteran coaches Harrish Ratag and Irish Marquez.

Completing the city's roster are Nicko Caparoso of Davao City National High School; Joshua hopano, Billy Oldren Molinos and Darwin Tajora, Shara Duiaz, Shairadell Mate Matillosa, Christine Jane Pongaron and Angelina Villanueva of UM; Bruce Pernia, Joana Marie Agudo of Holy Cross of Davao College; Sofia Jane Bangunan of Tamugan National High School; Andrea de Guia of Toril and Reza Tuba of Marilog.
