Mintal's dragon boat team to get national award

THE Barangay Mintal's Dragon Boat Team will be feted as one of the awardees of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) Search for Good Practices of LGUs in the implementation of the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act during the celebration of the 7th Juvenile Justice and Welfare Consciousness Week on November 26 in Manila.

Barangay Mintal captain Rey Amador "Tata" Bargamento received a congratulatory letter from JJWC last Monday, November 12.

"Barangay Mintal's Dragon Boat team has been selected by the National Awards Committee (NAC) to be one of the awardees of this year's search," JJWC executive director lawyer Tricia Claire Oco said in the letter.

This year's JJ week celebration, with its theme "Lipunan, Bata at Magulang, Sabay-sabay para sa Kaunlaran", Oco added, "recognizes the critical role of the society, the parents and families, and the children themselves in ensuring the fulfillment of rights of all children especially those at risk and in conflict with the law".

On its Facebook page, Barangay Mintal also congratulated fellow finalists Municipality of San Fernando, La Union and Dapitan City government and Zamboanga del Norte as well as the men and women behind the Base Camp Dragons who taught the children fundamentals of dragonboat as a sport.

Barangay Mintal Facebook page also congratulated city government officials led by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio along with the rest "who gave their time and their resources in supporting this intervention program".
